The aim of the thesis was to analyze antihypertensive drug utilization in children and adults in the hospital setting as well as in outpatients. The incidence of adverse drug reactions in patients observed was also evaluated. The ATC / DDD methodology was used for the purpose of this study. Data collected included prescribed antihypertensive drugs (drug names, doses, duration of treatment), disease state of the patients and reported adverse drug reactions. The study provided insight into the prescribing habits of our physicians. It was observed that the use of antihypertensive drugs in the adult population significantly exceeds the utilization rate in children, which is in accordance with differences in the pattern of diseases in both population groups. The most frequently prescribed drugs were ACE-inhibitors, diuretics and beta-blockers. The incidence of reported adverse drug effects was lower than in other centers. Multiple therapy contributed mostly to adverse effect occurrence. Also comorbidity, age and sex of patients contributed to occurrence of unwanted effects of drugs.
