    <ns1:description language="en">In the experimental part of the dissertation, the potential of
usage of finely milled CRT glass (&lt;0,063 μm) in making mortar and
concrete is tested and analyzed. Eight mortar and concrete mixtures
each have been made. Pulverized glass is used to replace a share of
cement, the replacement percentage in both composites being: 5%,
10%, 15%, 20% and 35%, by mass. The adopted upper limit for
replacement of cement with glass is in accordance with the maximum
share of other mineral admixtures in CEM II cement. Also, two
batches of mortars and concretes were made with addition of 5% and
10% of CRT to total amount of cement. A comprehensive testing of
properties of fresh cement composites modified in this manner has
been conducted, as well as of mechanical strengths, rheological
characteristics and durability. Among other things, durability tests
included: freeze/thaw resistance and freeze/thaw resistance with deicing
salt, water impermeability, sulphate attack and leaching tests.
Also, a SEM and EDS analysis of mortar and concrete samples is
conducted.
The analysis and processing of the results helped form the
conclusions regarding potential of usage of CRT glass for making
mortar and concrete, and assess durability of these modified cement
composites. Finely milled cathode ray tube glass is puzzolanically
active and does not cause alkali-silicate reaction. In mortars, CRT
glass can be used for replacement up to 20% without causing any
considerable decline of compressive or flexural strengths, while
mortar retains its integrity under freeze/thaw conditions. Addition of
glass up to 10% in relation to the total amount of cement in mortar
improves physical-mechanical properties.
Mechanical strengths of concrete with a share of cement
replaced with CRT up to 15% are improved. Durability of concrete
with the same share of replacement is not compromised. is The
replacement of 20% by mass can be considered the upper limit for
replacement of a share of cement with glass in concrete mixes,
whereby the mechanical strengths of concrete are negligibly
degraded, while durability in terms of action of freeze/thaw with deicing
salt is questionable. The results the leaching test of concrete
with CRT glass confirm that these concretes do not present an
environmental challenge.</ns1:description>
