    <ns1:description language="en">The subject of this dissertation is the bioclimatic design and planning
of passive solar buildings with a sunspace, intended for individual
residency, and the issue of thermal comfort in such buildings. The
research includes the possibilities of applying passive sunspace
systems to residential stand-alone houses in the climate conditions of
the City of Niš.
Dynamic modeling through the EnergyPlus™ software was used to
calculate the energy properties of a passive solar house with a sunspace
for the analyzed bioclimatic, urban-planning, and structural and
architectural parameters. The following architectural and urbanplanning
parameters of stand-alone passive solar houses are
investigated: the building shape factor, floor geometry, window-towall
ratio (WWR), sunspace floor geometry, building orientation in
relation to the sun, building and sunspace glazing type, thermal mass
of the building, wall structure and composition, green space, shading
elements, and the distance from neighboring buildings.
In addition, optimization was performed for passive solar stand-alone
houses with sunspaces and for the relevant construction and
architectural parameters affecting the utilization of solar energy. To
achieve the set goals of optimization, an analysis was conducted to
assess the sensitivity of structural and architectural parameters in
relation to the required energy for heating, cooling, and thermal
comfort. The analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression
combined with Latin hypercube sampling (LHS). The non-dominated
sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) was used to determine the optimal
combination of predefined parameters that affect fossil fuel
consumption and the resulting pollutant emissions. Favorable
properties of the house models obtained through optimization
positively influence the thermal comfort, with reduced energy
consumption for heating and cooling.
This research has shown that the total annual pollutant emissions,
resulting from combustion of specific fossil fuels used for heating and
cooling of stand-alone houses with a sunspace, are heavily dependent
on the structural and architectural properties of the building.
It follows that the optimization of structural and architectural
parameters of buildings with a sunspace yields better thermal comfort
with less energy required for heating and cooling, which directly causes
a decrease in total pollutant emissions. In terms of environmental
protection, every reduction of pollutant emissions is important both
locally and globally.</ns1:description>
