It seems that Florovsky’s neopatristic synthesis, as a methodological paradigm, does not envisage a possibility of a critical reading of the Fathers. Although Florovsky talks about the ‘new creative act’, his vision of creative theology focuses entirely on the exegesis of the ‘western religious tragedy’ and never seems to accept a possibility of a critical approach to the Fathers.
