<dc:title xml:lang="srp">Morfološka varijabilnost, hemijski sastav isparljivih komponenti i biološke aktivnosti odabranih vrsta roda achillea L. (asteraceae)</dc:title>
<dc:description xml:lang="srp">In this doctoral dissertation, the morphological and phytochemical variability and differentiation of 13 Achillea species, including 11 species from the section Achillea sensu lato (A. chrysocoma, A. clypeolata, A. coarctata, A. collina, A. crithmifolia, A. distans, A. grandifolia, A. millefolium, A. nobilis, A. pseudopectinata and A. x vandasii) and two from the section Anthemoideae (A. ageratifolia and A. lingulata) from Serbia were analyzed. Multivariate statistical analyses indicated a generally clear differentiation between species from two studied sections at the level of morphological characteristics. However, variability of headspace (HS) volatiles and essential oil (EO) compounds did not support differentiation of species in accordance with infrageneric classification of Achillea. Additionally, the biological activities (antimicrobial potential and acute toxicity) of EOs of selected Achillea species were analyzed. The tested EOs showed a broad antimicrobial spectrum, in which no differences in pathogen sensitivity were observed based on Gram staining. Besides, most EOs have shown high toxicity in the Artemia salina lethality bioassay (LC50<100 μg/ml), indicating that they may also possess some level of pesticidal and/or anticancer properties. In both types of biological tests, EO of A. lingulata showed the highest activity, while EO of A. crithmifolia had the lowest activity. The highest activity of EO of A. lingulata can be explained by its unusual chemical composition compared to the other studied species. The obtained results reflected the huge and complex morphological and phytochemical variability of the genus Achillea. Furthermore, this study confirms the importance of essential oils as sources of new bioactive compounds and their biological potential.</dc:description>
