<dc:description xml:lang="srp">The dissertation titled The Women’s Issue in the Leskovački glasnikMagazine (1921–1941) aims to examine how the issue of women wasrepresented in the Leskovac weekly Leskovački glasnik, a newspaperfocused on trade, crafts, agriculture, education, and social life duringthe period 1921 – 1941. The purpose of analyzing newspaper articlesthat deal with the woman’s issue, women's rights, women'semancipation, or that portray women in any context is to demonstratethat newspaper texts, as a practice of signification, are aligned withthe cultural and ideological constructs of a patriarchal society. For thepurposes of this research, a general scientific method was applied, analyzing relevant literature and previous research in the field. Aqualitative content analysis was used for the texts, while aquantitative method served to determine the scope of therepresentation of women's issue in Leskovački glasnik. The unit ofanalysis was individual newspaper articles. The main conclusion isthat the woman’s issue in Leskovački glasnik (1921–1941) wasrepresented in a stereotypical manner. Male and female experienceswere separated by a clear boundary between the public and privatespheres. A critical view of the media, media literacy, that is, anunderstanding of media practices and the ways in which socialdogmas are transmitted – combined with an awareness that these aresocial constructs and not naturally given, constitutes the first steptoward a broader perception of social reality and towardunderstanding identity as a fluid entity, not predetermined by biologyor social conventions.</dc:description>
