<dc:description xml:lang="srp">Turning is one of the most widespread machining processes in the industry, because it enables high productivity and machining quality at acceptable costs, which makes it necessary in the production of various machine parts. Despite thelong tradition of studying machining, in industrial practice there is still a need forreliable prediction models that can describe the change of cutting force underdifferent machining conditions. The reason lies in the complex nature of theinteraction between the cutting tool and the workpiece, which depends on a largenumber of factors. In this context, the prediction of cutting force during turning isnot only a mathematical idealization of the process, but it is of essentialimportance for industrial application in modern production, because it enables thedetermination of the relevant cutting regime, the selection of fixtures, theassessment of workpiece deflection, the monitoring of the turning process, theanalysis of the materials’ machinability, as well as the optimization of the processitself. The research within the doctoral dissertation is focused on the analysis ofthe possibility of integrating dimensional analysis and low-resolutionexperimental designs in order to develop adaptable empirical models for theprediction of cutting force in dry external longitudinal turning of six steels ofdifferent quality and machinability. Parameters related to workpiece material, cutting regimes and cutting tool geometry were taken into account. The aim is topropose an efficient approach to develop cutting force prediction models ofacceptable accuracy that would be amenable to practical application in industry. The validation of the developed models, which was carried out by the realizationof experimental trials outside and within the included experimental hyper-space,showed that the proposed models have good predictive performances.</dc:description>
